Rumor has it that a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV is in development
After a decade of hard work, Final Fantasy XIV remains Square's cash cow, something no one could have predicted when it initially failed to launch in 2010. Today, the MMORPG continues to grow and update. Earlier this year, the game landed on the Xbox Series X/S, and more recently, the latest expansion, Legacy of Gold, launched.
However, the news surrounding Final Fantasy XIV doesn't stop there. Well-known whistleblower Kurakasis claimed on the Exuters forum that a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV is in development. The ported version is rumored to be the responsibility of Tencent, with which Square formed a strategic alliance as early as 2018.
It is understood that Tencent and Square originally planned to develop an unannounced Neil game for mobile devices, but the project has been shelved, and they are now fully committed to bringing Final Fantasy XIV to mobile devices.
In addition, Square recently announced that Final Fantasy XIV has reached its highest level of concurrent online users since 2013 since the launch of Legacy of Gold. This once again demonstrates the game's continued popularity and appeal to MMORPG fans.
